Attend NAME Night at the 2022 Good Sam Show

NAME Night is an event that occurs at both the Good Sam Show in San Jose, California, and at the Philadelphia show in Pennsylvania each year. It is an evening (7:00 pm to 9:00 pm) of getting together with other miniaturists and having fun. It is sponsored by NAME (National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts). This year, it will occur on Saturday evening, October 8th, in the lobby outside of the sales room at the Good Sam show in San Jose.

NAME Night is for everyone—members and non-members of NAME. Participants may create short make-n’-take projects (those that can be finished during the event), visit with other miniaturists, enjoy door prizes, and take home a “goodie” bag.

This year, NAME Night is hosted by Barbara Thornton-Hill, Lynne Hoffman and Laura Seibert. Instructors will be announced at the event. There will be four projects with time to make each item.

Debbie Young is offering this make-n-take “HOME” sign with interchangeable holiday designs.

This is a great way to meet other miniaturists and bring the fun and joy of miniaturists to all!

If you are interested in presenting a free make-n-take at one of the NAME nights, please contact Barbara Thornton-Hill, or Laura Seibert.

NAME Day 2022

The purpose of NAME Day is to unite and involve all NAME members by doing the same project on the same day at different locations throughout the US and internationally. Participation in an event may occur in clubs, locally, statewide, regionally, or online.

NAME Day will take place on Saturday, October 1, 2022. Expanded events (or areas with conflicting dates) should occur as close to this date as is reasonably possible.

Project: All events will center on the same project. The 2022 NAME Day project will be a memory box that is designed to show off past, present and future special items. NAME is also planning a series of reasonably priced kits (similar to Quick Minis) and/or finished pieces all year long!

This year’s NAME Day project will offer only one size. The project has 12 small compartments and one larger middle section. Kits will include an etched 50th Anniversary logo that may be placed anywhere.

Add your own favorite 8″ x 10″ picture frame to keep out the dust, optional lighting, a shelf, or a pedestal for small items. The options are yours.

Attend a local event or participate online.

Bay Area Miniaturist Makes Miniature Freeway Signs

Chelsea Andersson creates a variety of miniatures from her home in Mill Valley. According to her blog:

“Mysterious tiny highway signs have started to appear across Marin County in California… My goal in creating #TinyHighwaysUSA was to create public art that was accessible to everyone. The signs have no real purpose other than to make you smile. The signs get me out of the house, exploring this beautiful town, and, I hope, will do the same for you.”

Join NAME’s Camp Makamini

Online, July 24 -July 31, 2021

Looking for something fun to do this Summer? How about spending some time at summer camp? NAME’s Create Team has a special event planned for you — Camp Makamini! NAME has set aside the last week in July for all things camp-related.

When you were young, Summer was a time filled with fun and adventure, and for many…a trip to summer camp. Camp Makamini is the summer camp of your imagination — it can be a vintage summer camp…or one decorated in glamping style — ready for you and your friends to get together to work on miniatures.

Whatever type of summer camp you imagine…it all starts with a cabin. So, we start our summer camp week off with a cabin workshop. The cabin workshop is available in quarter inch, or in half inch scale. Sorry, but a 1” scale cabin was too big to reasonably produce and ship.

The week continues with arts and crafts, quick minis and s’mores galore! Camp activities will be open to all, whether they sign up for a cabin or not. More information will be available in July, but in order to make sure your cabin arrives before camp starts, you need to sign up now.

More info about Camp Makamini on the Create website.
