Miniaturists in the Sacramento area are hosting a series of hands-on workshops. Class sizes are limited, so be sure to reserve your seat early. Raffle donations are also welcome to support the expenses for the upcoming NAME Convention in California. Join us for creativity, learning, and plenty of miniature fun!

WORKSHOP 1: “The Cabinet of Lost & Found” First Annual Tiny Talk at Red Hawk Event

Saturday, March 28th , 2026; 10am-4pm
Red Hawk Hotel and Casino, 1 Red Hawk Parkway, Placerville, CA 95667
Cost: $60 includes 1:12 scale cabinet kit and buffet style lunch

Join the Sacramento area miniaturists for their first annual Miniature Play Day — a fun-filled day of mini making, networking and merriment. The day will begin with putting together the 1:12 scale cabinets and decorating them after lunch. Attendees will receive a laser cut cabinet kit. Bring your own tools and glue (a list of recommended tools will be supplied after registration). Supplies will also be available for sharing. You will receive some adorable accessories for your cabinet. Ideas for your cabinet: sewing room cabinet, crafter’s cabinet, apothecary, witch’s hutch.

Create your own vision of a “Hope Chest” to share at the event.
We will vote on the winner during the day. The prize for the best hope chest will be free admission to next year’s Tiny Talk at Red Hawk event.

Red Hawk is a hotel and casino. Attendees must be aged 10 or older. Refunds for cancellations 10 days prior to event only.

WORKSHOP 2: Polymer Clay Techniques with Terezinha Justino (TZMinis)

Saturday, July 11, 2026; 10am-4pm.
Location: Roslyn Jacobs house in Rancho Cordova, CA
Skill Level: Beginner
Cost: $85.00

New to polymer clay? This beginner technique class is the perfect introduction. Designed for complete beginners, the class will cover the basics of conditioning clay, blending colors, and learning simple techniques that form the foundation for endless creative projects. Participants will receive hands-on guidance exploring texture, shaping, and finishing tips. Everyone will leave with finished pieces and the confidence to keep creating at home. Tools to bring to class: tweezers, small scissors, X-Acto knife, size small tip 00 or 0 paintbrush, and personal tools. The instructor will bring other tools and materials needed for students to use in class. No prior experience is needed.

WORKSHOP 3: “Sip & Paint” with Roslyn Jacobs at the Miniatures in the Wine Country Show and Sale

Saturday, May 2, 2026; 3:30pm-5:30pm
Miniatures in the Wine Country Show and Sale, Lodi Grape Festival Grounds, 413 E. Lockeford St., Lodi, CA 95240
Cost:  $50
Skill Level:  All
The instructor will take participants step-by-step from blank canvas to their very own masterpiece, all while enjoying some drinks, snacks, and laughs with favorite miniaturists. No experience necessary. Materials, beverages and snacks are included. Please advise of any allergies prior to the class. Two beverages are included in the cost of the ticket. The workshop will take place in the vendor hall after the showroom closes. Registration deadline: April 10, 2026.

We are looking for raffle donations to benefit expenses associated with the NAME convention scheduled in California this year in July. Auction of Sharon Zanassi’s Miniature Collection Goes Through Sept. 14, 2025

The sale features the collection of Sharon Kay Zanassi, a North Bay resident and former Marin County California Miniature Show producer, who is looking to downsize after many years of collecting.

This is a very large assortment of tiny treasures (over 300 lots) as well as Ferd Sobol pieces which will be sold in a series of 7-day auctions through D. Thomas Miniatures over the next several weeks and into early September, each starting and ending on a Sunday (except for Labor Day weekend).

Cigar Box Contest: Showcase Your Miniature Creations

Use a cigar box to create anything you wish in miniature. Entry must be received by August 1, 2025. The committee will vote and notify the winners before the show.

Bring your cigar box project to the Good Sam Show (Oct. 11 & 12, 2025) to display in a space especially for these creations.

Contest Rules

  • Entry MUST be constructed using a cigar box(es)
  • One side of cigar box must be left exposed with cigar label clearly visible
  • To enter contest, submit photos of entry to: cigboxchallenge@yahoo.com.
  • Up to four photos may be submitted, one photo MUST be of side with cigar label
  • Entries must be received by August 1, 2025
  • Entries will be judged by the show committee (committee NOT allowed to enter contest)
  • Winners will be notified via email by September 1, 2025

You’re invited to join this year’s NAME Day celebration! Whether you attend an in-person gathering hosted by the MiniCals club, the By Small Design club, or online from the comfort of home, it’s a great chance to connect with fellow miniaturists and enjoy working on a fun project together.

This year’s project, “The Courtyard,” will be available in 1:48, 1:24, and 1:12 scales, with a basic kit provided. You’ll have the freedom to finish and decorate it your own way, with plenty of ideas and inspiration shared throughout the day.

Mini Stained Glass Workshop with Rafael Acevedo

You’re invited to attend a workshop with the MiniCals miniature club taught by Rafael Acevedo.

Title: 1:12 Stained Glass Window
Date: April 12, 2025; 10 am Pacific
Location: M & L Precision, 18665 Madrone Parkway, Morgan Hill, California

In this class, students will learn the art of creating a miniature stained glass piece. Participants can choose from two unique stained glass designs and will be provided with a window frame and plexiglass panel as their base. The class will cover essential techniques, including lead cutting, lead application, and basic glazing methods.

All necessary supplies will be provided; however, students are encouraged to bring additional lighting or personal magnifying devices if needed. If you prefer using your own utility knife or cutting mat, feel free to bring them along. This hands-on class is perfect for anyone looking to explore the beauty of stained glass craftsmanship in a manageable, small project.

Workshop cost $110. $2 tacos will be available for lunch.

Miniature Club in the North Bay

Join Marin, Sonoma, and Napa area miniaturists for friendship and sharing at the upcoming club meeting.

The club is open to all miniaturists, regardless of skill and scale.

The next meeting will be Sunday, April 14, 2024, in Santa Rosa, CA. Carol will be sharing techniques to create realistic-looking stained glass. She will bring along materials for attendees to make their own piece in 1:12 or 1:48 scale. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own projects to work on after the stained glass session.

MiniCals Workshop: Golden State Poppy Tiffany Style Lamp with Juanita Landa
18665 Madrone Parkway, Morgan Hill, CA
Participants will learn how to assemble and paint a Tiffany style lamp using Esther Miniature’s table lamp kits. A “leaded” look and glass like appearance will be achieved using glass paints. Students will also give their base a metallic finishing using Gilder’s past. The option of lighting the lamp will be available for an additional $10. Cost of workshop: $65. Limited class size.

Club happenings in the North Bay

The second meeting of the mini club in the North Bay brought out miniaturists intent on sharing and socializing. Attendees learned some new techniques and spent time on their own projects—all while getting to know fellow miniaturists.

Barbara Thornton-Hill shared techniques to create the appearance of stone, brick, and wood using foam.

Club members brought their own projects to work on and to share:

Rafael created a Spring basket during the club meeting.
Billie continued to embroider embellishments on this bed cover.
Barbara worked on a roundtable kit.
Carol started landscaping a scene made with a Robin Betterley kit.

A Request for Photos of Your Miniatures

The NAME N2 website is in need of your photos! With over 1,200 views each month, the N2 website is a gateway for the miniature community to find info about the hobby and the events that are happening in our region. It’s also a place for miniaturists to share their work and be inspired by others’ projects!

So please send Carol Mittlesteadt-Kubrican (N2 Region Webmaster) photos of your projects (any scale and they don’t even have to be completed!). Be sure to include your name and some info about the project so that Carol can attribute the work.

NAME Day 2024 – MiniCals and Through the Looking Glass Miniature Clubs are Looking for Your Input

Are you planning to attend, or would you like to attend a NAME Day event? MiniCals and Through the Looking Glass miniature clubs will be offering their NAME Day event in Morgan Hill, California.

NAME Day 2024 will be a bit different than previous years. There will not be a new project for 2024. Instead, NAME will be offering all of the previous NAME Day projects for purchase.

Join MiniCals and Through the Looking Glass clubs for their NAME Day event on Saturday, September 28, 2024 in Morgan Hill, California. The theme will be “Halloween”.

As a help to the event organizers, please let them know which of the following projects you’d like to repeat or do for a first time:
