Exhibits from the 2019 Good Sam Show

The 2019 Good Sam Show took place September 12-13, 2019 in San Jose, California. An exhibit of the work of local miniaturists was on display in the hallway of the show.

Rhona Lee: The Grand Ballroom

“The Grand Ballroom” is Rhona Lee’s tribute to the creative genius of Bluette Meloney.

“The Grand Ballroom” was designed by Bluette Meloney and completed by Rhona Lee. Rhona states, “This majestic room depicts the far end of an opulent hotel ballroom, featuring three back-lighted stained glass windows, two balconies and a faux marble floor.” Rhona exhibited the piece at the Good Sam Show.

Larry Herman: German Market Stall

Larry Herman created this Gluhwein market stall.

Larry exhibited his market stall at the Good Sam Showcase of Miniatures. Larry explained, “In December, Betty and I went on a Christmas market tour on the Rhine River. In Speyer, Germany, we had Gluhwein (hot mulled wine) in a stall featuring a moose which sang, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer in German! It made quite an impression on me so I made this miniature stall from the memory. Our moose also sings, but be careful what you ask for!!”

Trish Billard: Tools and Supplies Toolbox

Trish Billard created this tool tote in a workshop.

Trish Billard exhibited the “Tools and Supplies” toolbox at the Good Sam Showcase of Miniatures. Trish created the toolbox in a workshop hosted by Suzanne-Harrington Cole, in Vallejo, CA. Everyone in the workshop finished the toolbox differently. Trish’s toolbox was painted in trompe l’oeil style, a painting technique used to give the illusion of 3D.

Dewey, Cheetum and Howe, Attorneys at Law, is a roombox built in 1978. It was refurbished and furnished for the 2017 God Sam Show. It showcases Ferd Sobol’s metamorphic desk.

Smithsonian Museum to Offer Miniatures Exhibit

Ariel O’Connor, an objects conservator for the Smithsonian American Art Museum, looks into the “Three Room Dwelling” Nutshell crime diorama. (Barbara Haddock Taylor/Baltimore Sun)

The Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C. is refurbishing dollhouse death scenes that were used for forensic science.

The exhibition, “Murder Is Her Hobby: Frances Glessner Lee and the Nutshell Studies of Unexplained Death,” will be on display from Oct. 20 to Jan. 28, 2018. Visitors will be given flashlights and magnifying glasses to inspect the 19 dioramas.

Trish Billard: Cottage at the End of the Lane

Trish exhibited these quarter scale houses at the NAME Sacramento Houseparty. Her description of the project:

“These three houses replicate the illustrations in “The Cottage at the End of the Lane, ” children’s dollhouse story by Elaine Mills. Debbie Young designed and built the kits and taught them as a series of classes. I bought the kits and altered them to even more closely resemble the houses in the story. All three houses have working lights powered from a battery pack hidden within the house. I made all the dolls. The crowded house alone has seventeen of them! Also made most of the animals.”

Carole Ann Davis: Floral Roombox

Carole Ann Davis exhibited this roombox at the NAME Sacramento Houseparty. Carole Ann collected the flowers from various artists through the years. She made the display stand from plans and instructions by Nancy Thomas, who passed away in May of 2016. Carole Ann is a member of the Delta Doolittles Club.

Call for Fairy Houses!

The Kiwanis Club of Carmichael, CA, is looking for people who would like to display their fairy house creations and talk to people about their hobby.

On the second Saturday of each month, the Kiwanis Club opens the Koobs Nature Area (a 5 acre nature preserve in Carmichael) to the public with hands-on activities for families. Each month is a different theme. On August 12, 2017, the theme will be fairy houses.

Darwin Spring: A Display that Illustrates Miniature “Scales”

Darwin created this project to illustrate the various scales to non-miniaturists. The display uses the 2011 NAME Day project (the work center) in 1″, 1/2″ 1/4″ and 1/144 scales. Darwin exhibited the display at the NAME Sacramento Houseparty.

The Antioch Historical Society with the Delta DooLittles presents the fourth (and final) World of Miniatures Exhibit at the Antioch Historical Society Museum.

Exhibit Hours
Open to the public, at no charge, February 1 – 18, 2017. We will be open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m.

In Memoriam
This is a very special event for us as it will be our final exhibit and is in memory of a very special miniaturist – Nancy Thomas, our mentor, teacher and friend, who passed away in May of this year.

The Antioch Historical Society with the Delta DooLittles presents the fourth (and final) World of Miniatures Exhibit at the Antioch Historical Society Museum.

You’re invited to show your miniatures in the World of Miniatures –Part IV Exhibit!

Download an application form. Completed forms, with pictures must be received by January 17, 2017. Intake will be on Sunday and Monday, January 29 and 30, 2017.

The Holidays are already here, but we hope that you’ll take a minute to remember the awe and joy that you brought to visitors at the 2014 exhibit. The Riverview Room was a palace of imagination, creativity and memories for young and old!

Now you’re invited to share your new treasures with us for the 2017 Exhibit. We know that you’ve been busy these past three years and we can’t wait to see your new creations! We encourage you to ask fellow miniaturists and/or club members to exhibit their pieces in February also.
