NAME Day 2022

The purpose of NAME Day is to unite and involve all NAME members by doing the same project on the same day at different locations throughout the US and internationally. Participation in an event may occur in clubs, locally, statewide, regionally, or online.

NAME Day will take place on Saturday, October 1, 2022. Expanded events (or areas with conflicting dates) should occur as close to this date as is reasonably possible.

Project: All events will center on the same project. The 2022 NAME Day project will be a memory box that is designed to show off past, present and future special items. NAME is also planning a series of reasonably priced kits (similar to Quick Minis) and/or finished pieces all year long!

This year’s NAME Day project will offer only one size. The project has 12 small compartments and one larger middle section. Kits will include an etched 50th Anniversary logo that may be placed anywhere.

Add your own favorite 8″ x 10″ picture frame to keep out the dust, optional lighting, a shelf, or a pedestal for small items. The options are yours.

Join NAME’s Camp Makamini

Online, July 24 -July 31, 2021

Looking for something fun to do this Summer? How about spending some time at summer camp? NAME’s Create Team has a special event planned for you — Camp Makamini! NAME has set aside the last week in July for all things camp-related.

When you were young, Summer was a time filled with fun and adventure, and for many…a trip to summer camp. Camp Makamini is the summer camp of your imagination — it can be a vintage summer camp…or one decorated in glamping style — ready for you and your friends to get together to work on miniatures.

Whatever type of summer camp you imagine…it all starts with a cabin. So, we start our summer camp week off with a cabin workshop. The cabin workshop is available in quarter inch, or in half inch scale. Sorry, but a 1” scale cabin was too big to reasonably produce and ship.

The week continues with arts and crafts, quick minis and s’mores galore! Camp activities will be open to all, whether they sign up for a cabin or not. More information will be available in July, but in order to make sure your cabin arrives before camp starts, you need to sign up now.

More info about Camp Makamini on the Create website.

Registration is Open for NAME’s July Workshop

In July, NAME’s Create will be taking campers to Camp Makamini. To celebrate a summer of fun, the camp has a cabin workshop, arts and crafts, quick minis and s’mores galore! You must be registered for the workshop if you want the cabin, but other activities at Camp will be open to all. Sign up for the cabin workshop when registration opens on June 15th, 2021 or just stop by the Create site to visit during the month of July!

Workshop info

Join camp counselor, Debbie Young, for the Zoom session to assemble the cabin. Campers will construct their cabin starting with laying a wood floor and add siding, shingles, windows and large open doors to the exterior and open studs, to the interior. The cabin is open on one side for viewing through the screen and the roof also lifts off for easy decorating. The cabin will be fun to personalize with a nostalgic kid’s camp feel or full-blown adult glamping experience.

Photos from the MiniCals Wire Mesh Workshop

On Saturday, February 22nd, 2020, Karen Laisure led a workshop in Morgan Hill, California. Over twenty miniaturists participated, using wire mesh to create garden baskets and props. After carefully stretching, bending, folding and gluing the props to jewelry findings and wood, the pieces were simply painted and aged with acrylic paints. It was an easy, laid-back day.

Thank you to Rhona Lee for the photos. Some of the pieces in the photos were created by artisans, and were used as inspiration for the class.
